People bitch that Walmart is destroying small business but I have to say, the fact that everyone is driving to the stores doesn't help. And WHY is everyone driving to stores. Well for one thing, it's easier than carrying stuff but ONE OFTEN OVERLOOKED FACTOR is that "newer" sections of major cities HAVE NO SIDEWALKS! Seriously, I'm right beside the longest sidewalk that I know if in my area...it's 1 mile long. Any farther than that and you have to walk thru tall weeds, mud and possibly even ON a VERY busy road. I could take the bus if I wanted to pay enough (round trip) to buy myself a cheap lunch...but then I'd have to wait at a bus stop long enough to walk half way to where I'd be going anyway (I'm talking about stores within a couple miles of home). THANKFULLY, sidewalks are back in. Apparently everyone's noticed how freaking annoying it is to not even be ABLE to walk anywhere. Hmmm, or maybe it's because everyone's figured out that the whole reason americans are fat, is because they never get any exercise (walking a mile to and from work, the store, the bank, whatever...whould help a hell of a lot). Anyway...maybe now that sidewalks are coming back into style the small stores will return...and americans will get a little smaller (which will also help make the size of cars go down ;)
