Some other bastards that need to die! (and misc stuff, as usual)

Printer drivers, spooler, etc: What is so freaking difficult about cancelling a print job? I don't know about the rest of the braindead rodents in the world, but TO ME..."Cancel" isn't a meek little suggestion that passes a note to the printer saying "Hey, whenever you want, stop printing". Printers have a lot of memory, spoolers have even more (you know, being a program running in the background on your computer). I don't want to wait while the printer prints out half a page of a color picture. Maybe there's a utility out there called PrintNuke or something. A utility that does something silly like...purge the print job, reset the spooler and send a reset to the printer.
Another thing I don't like about the whole (current) cancel print job concept is that quite frankly, it doesn't work right when it does work like it's supposed to. Sometimes due to some goofy miscommunication somewhere...it somehow gets the communication between the computer and the printer out of sync. After that, the bitmap it sends to the printer gets printed out as if it was a stream of old fashioned text. Do you have any idea how many pages a 1200 DPI image would work out to when every byte sent converts into a character? Thankfully I'll never find out directly...I always reset the printer (and usually the computer too) and even if I didn't...your average printer doesn't have a paper tray that holds 10000 sheets or gallon sized ink cartriges. Anyway, to those responsible for these issues...here's hoping you (in the imortal words of Sam Kennison) "slide under a gas truck and taste your own blood."

Exercise: Well, I've since found that I hadn't gone as far as I thought in that previous post. That first day with otis was about 6 miles total. The next day was the afore mentioned 10. Another day I thought I'd managed to get to the end of the trail...it came out by some school track...total trip about 12 miles. FINALLY I think I've managed to hit the end though...round trip of 14 miles. Haven't been over 8 miles in a day since :)
...anyway, it's starting to get cooler so I probably won't be jogging much longer. Jogging in cool air makes you feel like crap.

Munchies: I've had the munchies lately. I'm thinking it has SOMETHING to do with the fact that I've been averaging about 7 miles a day for the last week and a half :) And...it's not like scrapping the diet on days when I've burned 1000-1800 calories exercising is really going to hurt anything. BTW, takes about a pint of ice cream or close to a quart of frozen yogurt to replace 1800 calories.

Supplements: Been taking a few of the more well documented supplements. Vitamins obviously, flax seed oil (your body uses it to make Omega-3 oil...or NOT if it doesn't need it), glucosamine, condroitin and MSM...and half an aspirin.

Mad libs: Been thinking about doing a sort of mad-libs sort of thing...but it's proving more difficult than I thought. Hopefully I'll make some head-way soon. If not, that's life.

Rashashana: And I just noticed that the misc jewish holiday banner logo is being displayed. A little investigation reveals that it's Rashashana. No...I don't remember all the dates I programmed the script to deal with. That was the whole point in writing the script...so I wouldn't have to remember! Since it's likely that you won't be reading this while the logo is displaying, you can go see the logo (and others) here.

Heh, J ,my gf, and i decided to go for a bike ride on Sunday. Haven't ridden in ...oh.... about a year. So we cruise through downtown Marlborough, all 1/4 mile of it. Turns out there is a little community fair going on. We chain up the bikes and start moseying along the stalls. Grab a taco and a burrito for a snack from one of the vendors. We then hit the motherload; the old lady/grandmother's stall. There were cakes, pies, cookies, muffins, breads, and... baked beans. Don't know how the beans mesh with the desserts but they were selling pretty well. so for $1 we got three 3" diameter homemade chocolate-chip cookies. Damn good.

After the detour we kept riding, following RT. 20 for a ways. We decided that we were close enough to Dave's house to drop by for a visit, only another 3 miles or so. After traversing a Huge hill we stop at Dave's for a few minutes and visit.

On the way back we decide to go the "back way" home to avoid RT. 20 and the traffic (no bike lane for a few miles and construction, so it wasn't fun the first time). the back way makes a loop below and around Marlborough and bypasses 20. The route goes through farm land and woods, very scenic. I totally forgot the number of hills back there. When you're in a car you just don't remember the hills, and the steep grades, and the mountainous passages (well that is what they felt like).

Hills aside, tough though they were were not the worst part of the trip. The one pain in the ass thing about the ride was just that... a pain in the ass. I apperently don't have the most comfortable bike seat. It is not one of the nice new ones that have a "cut out" slot running through the middle to alleviate certain pressures. My god, near the end i thought i would become sterile from the abuse. If i ever decide to make that trip again i will invest in a better seat, and maybe some of those padded bike shorts....

The overall trip was 19 miles, and it only took about 2.5 hours of biking and another 3 or 4 for the pain to subside. -Q
