Well, my wife and I had managed to get out of sync with our movies. She'd seen a sneak preview of Hellboy with a friend and I'd seen Dawn of the Dead with some friends, so last night we went to see them both. Dawn of the Dead was pretty good. A bit of comedy, a fair amount of action, a bit of a scare here and there and the usual zombie gore. If you go see the movie DO NOT LEAVE as soon as the credits roll! Overall, I'd say it was pretty good except for one minor problem (hidden text, highlight the box to read it...kind of a spoiler if you haven't seen the movie)
| What I wonder is why the hell didn't they have Andy over in the gun store spend his time killing off the zombies in the parking lot? I mean, he had a GUN STORE and he was a fantastic shot. He should have had more than enough ammo to kill off everyone in the mall parking lot and then some. Heck, I was wondering if your average gun shop holds enough ammo to head shot everyone in the city. |
Hellboy was also a pretty good movie...like Dawn, not a GREAT movie, but certainly worth seeing. Hellboy is basically a demon brought over in a failed Nazi experiment and raised by the good guys. He's witty, he's strong, he's nigh indestructable and that of course includes being fireproof (he IS a demon). Standard occult plot...banished supernatural being(s) being brought back by a madman. Water rockets...well, after some failed attempts at making my own fins, I decided to just look for a fin design on the net...came up with this. The rocket seems designed for lower speeds though, so I'm not sure how the fins will hold up at higher speeds. I think the OTHER fins were flopping around at higher speeds so I made these out of that rigid sandwiched foam board. For a "recovery system", I decided to see how it lasts if I just let the thing slam into the ground. To protect it I duct taped a section of a 2 liter bottle on the top (should also help with stability). If it still suffers damage or if the top gets crushed in too easily I'll see about adding a parachute.
...and that ends another non-thrilling episode of poitsplace. Update! Tested the water rocket...easily cleared 200 feet and I didn't even have it up to full pressure
