Vacation over: *sigh* vacation's over. In case you didn't gather from the previous post (I never mention going on vacation just in case some fucker wants to break in and steal stuff). One week at the beach...where does the time go. I caught up on sleep, got in some serious relaxation time...didn't get to swim much though (an unusually high tide exposed some broken up hunks of concree that are PROBABLY left over from the hurricane years ago). Still, very nice. Bob and Kim, Guthrie and ker...er uh...however you spell her name (should learn that) were also with us for the first few days. Good fun. Hosting: Well, looks like we'll be switching hosting services. Means a bit of work BUT, I'll be able to have poitsplace.com, fakesites, etc...all appear as their own domains. Good timing too, my wife and some of her poetry friends are starting up a website at (www.kakalak.net). Hopefully that'll go smoothly. It'll also encourage me to dig out the old posts and make them available in some sort of history. Katrina: Hurricane Katrina recovery news coverage continues. Everyone blames everyone else...and IMHO, they're all right. Just about every fucking american is to blame. That's right. No large public projects get built without TAX DOLLARS and most americans seem to think they're being punished or something by having to pay taxes. Who the hell do they think pays for police, roads, levees. Of course, SOME people are more "directly" in the path of the blame finger Some for plain old short sightedness/stupidity that occured BEFORE HAND... ummm, why is it the pumping stations in new orleans can't work when their area is flooded...and without connection to the power grid??? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Why is a thin concrete wall the only thing standing between a canal and a city below sea level?
...and of course some is fairly recent stupidity, like not mobilizing people IMMEDIATELY to dispense water at the large evacuation centers. The bottom line however, is that we will have to PAY to fix all this stuff and to prevent it from being this bad again. Most cheap-ass americans aren't going to like that. We all need to chip in to pay to build up emergency supplies and such...not to mention perhaps using a little common sense (not building on flood plains, keeping some canned food and bottled drinking water around for emergencies, etc). Lost: Got hooked on the damn show and currently looking forward to seeing the new season.
