Defensive driving, DRM, etc

Defensive Driving:  I forgot to mention earlier this week that I took the defensive driving course.  Sometimes I really wonder about people.  Apparently they're starting to issue tickets for "running" YELLOW lights.  The guy said it was considered "failing to yield the right of way" but TO WHO, Ghost pirates?!?!?  What the hell is the point of having a three state light if one's not a warning?  There was another bullshit thing the guy was talking about that I can't remember *shrug* all the rest of it is pretty straight forward stuff.

One of the "characters" at the class, BTW was an old, fat, graying, balding, wall-eyed (so bad you could barely see on of his pupils), with a lisp and a funny voice...oh, and did I mention he was one of those people that's so stupid he really shouldn't be driving a car.  You know how some points are SO important to an instructor that they state it right up front in that part of the discussion...in no uncertain terms.  Then later they say it a couple more times as they explain WHY it's that way and finally end with...saying it again?  Well he kept asking about the things that were stated in no uncertain terms.  Got to the point that everyone in the class laughed when he started talking.

DRM, piracy, the music industry:   It occured to me tnight...do the record companies HONESTLY believe that a kid in high school is actually going to pay $1 per track for the 20000 songs on their ipods?  No, seriously...$20000?????   And crippled music at that.  Seriously, if music was $.25 per track and there wasn't ANY DRM, I'd be buying up songs left and right...but they're not so fuck 'em.

PCI Express X1-X16:  Just thought I'd say...It's a serial standard people.  Shouldn't ALL of the 16X pci express cards have the ability to use ANY number?  Sure you'd lose performance but if some fool makes a motherboard with 16 X1 slots (in the same form factor as the X16 slots) they should all work.  Anything else is just someone involved in the standard being lazy and not adding a few lines of code to the BIOS of the video card or motherboard or both.

Server screw-ups:   I'm kind of wondering if we're going to have to switch web hosts.  Gazzin is screwing up quite a bit lately.  It's not down more than up or anything but it's not up 99% of the time either, much less 99.9%.  Over the last week I think it's been down about 5-10% of the time :\
