...and the parts have arrived

New parts: Well after waiting all freaking day, the parts finally came.  Hate waiting around for UPS.  The one time I've EVER said "Hmmm, I'll just sleep until almost lunch time because they NEVER come before 3...they came at about 11am SO...up I stayed.  But the waiting's behind me now.  Got to say, P4's look virtually indestructable compared to the old silicon die on a pin grid array things from the past.  Running everything at stock speeds (in my admittedly cold apartment) temps never got above 57C under a full load re-encoding a DVD.  BTW, just in case you're curious...just a few seconds under 15 minutes.  It won't be TOO much faster than that with the CPU overclocked because...it didn't even hit full load until about 1/2 way thru the process (DVD drive can't supply enough data until it's the outter half of the DVD).

So far I haven't done any serious testing or anything...not that I'm going to benchmark the thing.  The internet is awash with P4D 805 reviews...just dig 'em up yourself.  I did finally bump it up to 3.2ghz.  Ah, so glad they've had asynchronous PCI/AGP busses for a while now.  Means I can overclock the FSB without affecting anything except the RAM...which works fine at "333 mhz" (but on this FSB, it should be 400).  Once I have more stuff installed I'll try some games or something to see what kind of performance I get.  HOPEFULLY the load on the CPU won't be too much.  If it starts crashing but it's obviously not the heat, I might try using another PSU just to make sure.

Dentist: Thankfully I have absolutely no fears of going to the dentist.  I don't really even have what most people would call apprehension...especially telling considering I'm going to need a crown (*Grind!* tooth top missing, replace it with ceramic)  I think this will be the equivalent of having 1/4 of my teeth as crowns now.  *sigh* On the one hand you have very little to worry about in the way of cavities (on the crowns) but on the other hand, it's expen$ive.  Still, better than having a mouth full of gaps or *shudder* interlocking upper/lower teeth like some rednecks I've seen.
